New York Man Hospitalized With Burns After Industrial Accident

Kevin Mieschberger, 42, of 28 Victoria Road, North Babylon , was operating a Hi-Lo forklift and had just replaced an empty liquid propane gas tank with a full one when he became aware of leaking gas. While he attempted to tighten a fitting, the leak intensified and the gas ignited.

Mieschberger suffered second-degree burns on his arms and legs but was able to exit the building along with seven other co-workers. The liquid propane gas tank eventually ruptured and the building’s sprinkler system activated to control the fire.

Mieschberger was transported to Nassau University Medical Center by a Melville Fire Department ambulance where he was admitted to the burn unit. The building sustained minor damage.
